What your viewers see¶
This page describes the player, the watch page and the messages your viewers can see.
Where viewers watch¶
Viewers watch in one of two places. They do not need an OhPlayer account.
- Your page, where you embedded the player. See Embed on your site.
- Your watch page, the link from the Share window. It shows the video, its title and description, and a Made with OhPlayer link. If your account is on a trial, the page asks search engines not to list it.
Player controls¶
- Play and pause
- Mute and a volume slider
- The seek bar and the current time and length
- Speed, a button that cycles 1×, 1.25×, 1.5× and 2×
- CC, to show or hide captions. It is there only when the video has captions, which are on by default.
- HD, to choose a quality. It is there only when you turned on Quality menu, and offers Auto and the qualities that are ready.
- Fullscreen
Right-click the player for a small menu with Copy video link and Powered by OhPlayer.
Viewers can press Space to play or pause, M to mute and F for fullscreen while the player is selected. See Keyboard shortcuts.
The player pauses when a viewer switches to another tab.
Autoplay and start muted¶
Autoplay depends on your Playback settings and on the viewer’s browser. Browsers block autoplay with sound, so the Sales preset starts muted. The first time a viewer unmutes, the video restarts from the beginning with sound.
Autoplay does not run if the viewer’s device asks to reduce motion or to save data. They see a play button.
Locks¶
If you turned on Lock pause, the video cannot be paused. No skip ahead blocks jumping forward but allows rewinding. No scrub greys out the seek bar. See Playback settings.
CTAs, playgates and reveals¶
- CTA
- A button appears over the video from its start time until its Hides time, or until the end if there is none. At the end of the video, an end card can show the button with a Watch again button. See Timed CTAs.
- Playgate
- The video pauses and a form covers it. Viewers agree to share their details with a checkbox and click Play. They can also click Skip. See Lead forms (playgates).
- HTML reveal
- Your HTML appears under the player at its time. See HTML reveals.
Resume¶
A viewer who comes back in the same browser continues from where they stopped, if they had watched at least 2 seconds and did not finish. Watching to the end clears the saved place. When the video ends, the end screen has Watch again.
Messages viewers can see¶
On the watch page:
| Title | Message | Why |
|---|---|---|
| This video is still encoding. | It will play here when the player is ready. | The video is still processing. |
| This video is unavailable. | The link may be wrong, or the encode never finished. | The link is wrong or the video failed. |
| This video is unavailable. | Playback was disabled by OhPlayer. | OhPlayer turned playback off for this video. |
| This video is paused. | The owner needs to renew their OhPlayer plan. | The owner’s plan has lapsed. |
| This player could not load. | Check your connection and try again. | The player could not start. Viewers can click Retry. |
In an embedded player, viewers see a short message with a Retry button, for example “This video could not play.” or “This video is taking too long to load.” Other messages are “This video is not published yet.” for accounts that have not started their trial, and “This video is temporarily unavailable.” if a trial has used up its viewing.
Cookies and privacy¶
The embedded player stores a viewer ID and the resume position in the browser, and shows no consent banner on your site. The watch page shows OhPlayer’s own analytics cookie banner with Reject and Accept. See Data, privacy and cookies.
Ad click tracking¶
When your embed sits on a page reached from an ad, the player records gclid and fbclid from the page address, and the Meta _fbp and fbc cookies. This lets your ad platforms match views and leads to a campaign. It needs the script embed, not the iframe. Sales and revenue tracking is separate. See Track sales per video.
